【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=충북 진천군 여성농민회(회장 이갑인)는 9일 덕산읍 구말 문화센터 광장에서 ‘토종농산물 모종 나눔 행사’를 성황리에 개최했다.

  이번 행사는 지역 농업의 지속 가능성과 토종 농산물의 가치를 널리 알리기 위해 마련됐으며 2018년을 시작으로 8년째 추진하고 있다.

  이날 여성농민회는 진천 은여울, 음성 꽃동네 학생, 관내 유치원 어린이, 지역주민 등이 참여한 가운데 다양한 토종농산물 모종을 무료로 받아 자택이나 공동 텃밭에 심을 기회를 제공했다.

  준비된 모종은 고추(붕어초), 갓끈동부, 어금니동부, 흑찰 옥수수, 메옥수수, 쥐이빨옥수수, 오이, 땅콩, 참외, 호박, 흑수박 11종으로 약 8천500모 정도를 배부했다.

  또한 현장에서는 행사 담당자의 안내와 설명을 통해 각 품종의 특징과 재배 방법, 토종종자의 중요성에 대한 교육도 이뤄졌다.

  행사에 참여한 한 주민은 “오래전 먹었던 토종채소의 맛이 그리워 행사장을 찾았다”며 소감을 밝혔다.

  이갑인 회장은 “이번 모종 나눔은 단순한 나눔 행사를 넘어 우리가 스스로 지켜온 토종 씨앗의 가치를 다음 세대와 지역사회에 연결하는 뜻깊은 시작”이라며 “앞으로도 여성농민회는 생명농업과 생태순환의 실천을 통해 우리 땅에서 난 건강한 먹거리를 지켜나가겠다”고 말했다.
