【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=청주시는 청원구 주성동 주성사거리에서 진행한 혼잡교차로 개선사업을 준공했다고 9일 밝혔다.

교통 환경을 개선하기 위해 좌‧우회전 및 가‧감속차로를 설치한 사업으로, 총사업비 10억8천만원(시비 100%)를 투입해 지난해 7월부터 본공사를 추진해왔다.

특히 사거리 중 통행량이 많은 율량동 방면에서 서청주IC 방면으로 가는 동서 방향 구간은 기존 4차로(좌회전1-직좌공용1-직진2)에서 5차로(좌회전2-직진3)로 확대했다.

서청주IC 방면에서 율량동 방면(서에서 동)으로 향하는 구간도 기존 4차로(좌회전1-직좌공용1-직진2)에서 좌회전 1개 차로(좌회전2-직좌공용1-직진2)를 늘렸다.

시 관계자는 “경찰과 도로교통공단 등 관계기관과 협의를 통해 원활하게 공사를 준공할 수 있었다”면서 “시민들이 매일 이용하는 교통 환경을 개선하기 위해 앞으로도 도로 확장 및 개설 공사 등에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 시는 2023년부터 교통체증이 발생하는 주요 혼잡로를 조사해 주성사거리를 포함한 총 7개소를 선정하고 도로 이용자의 편의를 개선하는 사업을 추진하고 있다. 

이 중 주성사거리가 가장 먼저 마무리됐으며, 분평사거리 등 다른 6개소에서는 공사 또는 설계가 진행 중이다. 시는 올해 말까지 모든 사업을 마무리할 방침이다.
