【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=청주시는 청주선사박물관 건립사업이 문화체육관광부 ‘2025년 상반기 공립박물관 설립타당성 사전평가’를 최종 통과했다고 7일 밝혔다. 

문체부가 진행하는 사전평가 제도는 공립박물관의 질적 향상과 설립 적정성 여부를 판단하기 위한 제도다. 공립박물관 건립 단계에서 반드시 거쳐야 하는 행정절차로, 설립 협의부터 향후 운영 계획까지 3차에 걸쳐 심사가 진행된다. 

지난달 말 진행된 최종 심사에는 신병대 청주부시장이 직접 발표자로 나서 건립 필요성, 건축 및 전시방향, 운영계획 등을 상세히 설명해 타당성에 대한 공감대를 형성했고, 그 결과 심사위원들로부터 합격점을 받았다.

청주선사박물관은 흥덕구 옥산면 옛 소로분교 부지 내에 총사업비 395억 원을 들여 지하 1~지상 2층, 연면적 5천610㎡ 규모로 지어진다. 

선사 문화의 변화양상을 한자리에서 볼 수 있도록 4개의 전시실을 비롯해 교육시설, 편의공간 등 시민 친화적인 문화시설로 건립될 예정이다.

무엇보다 수장고를 확보해, 분산 보관 중인 청주의 수많은 문화유산을 집대성할 예정이다. 전문적‧체계적으로 전시함으로써 유구한 역사를 가진 청주의 정체성을 확립하고, 역사문화의 중심지로 자리매김할 방침이다.

시는 지난해 1월 건립 타당성조사 및 기본계획 수립 용역을 시작으로 유물조사 연구용역, 학술심포지엄, 유물수집운동, 건립추진위원회 구성‧운영 등을 추진하고 있다. 

앞으로 지방재정투자심사와 건축 설계 공모, 전시물 제작 및 설치 등 단계를 이행해 2029년 박물관을 개관할 예정이다.
