최 군수는 지난 1일 김천시청를 방문해 지난 4월 3일 취임한 배낙호 김천시장을 만나 청주공항~보은~김천 내륙철도 노선 유치를 위해 함께 힘을 모아줄 것을 요청했다.

이번 방문은 지역 간 상생발전과 국토 균형발전을 위한 철도노선 구축 필요성에 공감대를 형성하기 위해 마련된 자리로 최 군수는 배낙호 시장 및 김천시 관계자들과 함께 노선의 필요성과 기대 효과, 공동 대응 방안 등에 대해 논의를 진행했다.

최 군수는 배낙호 시장을 만난 자리에서 “청주공항~보은 김천 철도 노선 구축은 보은-김천 교류 및 상호협력의 기회 증가는 물론 김천 시민들의 공항 접근성 개선으로 인한 편익 증가와 수도권 접근성 향상에 도움이 될 것”이라며 “두 도시의 발전을 위해 반드시 필요한 노선인 만큼 함께 힘을 모아야 한다”고 말했다.

앞서 최재형 군수는 지난 3월 청주국제공항과 청주시청을 잇따라 방문해 해당 노선의 중요성을 설명하고 협조를 요청한 바 있으며 이번 김천시 방문을 통해 충북과 경북을 연결하는 광역 협력체계를 한층 강화했다.

최재형 보은군수는 “청주공항~보은 김천 철도 노선은 단순한 교통망 확장이 아니라 지역의 미래를 여는 핵심 기반이 될 것”이라며, “보은군은 앞으로도 관련 지자체들과 긴밀히 협력해 국가 계획 반영과 조기 추진을 위해 총력을 기울이겠다”고 말했다.
