6일 군에 따르면 군은 관련 단체 실무협의회를 통해 8월 1~3일, 3일간 옥천공설운동장 일원에서 축제를 열기로 결정했다.

2007년 제1회를 시작으로 올해 16회를 맞은 향수옥천 포도·복숭아 축제는 그동안의 축제 역사와 명성을 이어 한층 더 발전된 축제를 준비하고 있다.

일조량이 풍부하고 일교차가 커 고품질 과일 생산의 최적지인 옥천군의 포도·복숭아는 대청호 주변의 청정하고 기름진 땅에서 재배돼 맛과 향이 뛰어나 전국적으로도 입소문이 자자해 두터운 마니아층을 유지하고 있다.

지난 축제의 잘된 점은 더욱 강화하고 부족한 점은 개선해 축제 준비에 박차를 가할 예정이며 특히 폭염에 대비해 방문객 편의시설을 강화하고 다양한 체험행사를 준비할 예정이다.

군 관계자는 “방문객들에게 옥천군의 청정하고 품질 좋은 옥천의 선물(농특산물)을 제공하고, 지역 관광객 유치와 농업인 소득 증대라는 성과를 달성할 수 있도록 축제 준비에 심혈을 기울이고 있다”며 “신선한 포도․복숭아와 볼거리 즐길거리를 내실 있게 준비하겠다”고 밝혔다.
