【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=충청북도교육청 직속기관 특수교육원(원장 이혜경)은 지난 9월 23일(월)부터 10월 2일(수)까지 특수교육 선도 유공자 16명을 대상으로 미국 뉴욕 소재 특수교육기관을 방문하여 국외연수를 실시하고 있다.

이번 연수는 통합교육, 교육과정 운영, 특수교육 관련 서비스 분야의 세 가지 사항을 중심으로 정해 미국과 우리나라 특수교육 현황을 비교 분석함으로써 미래 특수교육의 방향을 탐색했다.

방문 기관으로는 뉴욕 교육국, 헬렌켈러 국립센터를 포함하여 통합교육이 잘 이루어지는 초․중․고 각 1교씩 3교와 특수학교 2교로 총 7개 기관으로,

뉴욕 특수교육기관 방문을 통해 ▲미국의 특수교육 지원 정책과 통합교육 ▲개별화교육 ▲특수교육대상자의 자립을 위한 진로전환교육 ▲특수교육 관련 서비스 지원 ▲장애인식개선과 인권교육 ▲에듀테크 활용 교육 방법 등 특수교육의 전반적인 내용들이 학교 현장에서 어떻게 구체화되어 학생 성장에 도움을 주는지 살펴봤다.

이혜경 특수교육원장은 뉴욕 교육국을 방문하여 “이번 방문이 양 국가 간 특수교육 전문가들이 서로의 특수교육 정책과 구체적인 교육 실천 사례를 공유하고 소통하면서 양 국가의 특수교육 발전이 이루어지는 계기가 되면 좋겠다.”며, “앞으로 특수교육 종사자들의 해외 교류를 확대하는 데 힘쓰겠다.”고 말했다.

Chungbuk Special Education Center, Visit to Special Education Site in the US

The Special Education Center (Director Lee Hye-kyung), an organization directly affiliated with the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education, is conducting overseas training for 16 leading figures in special education by visiting a special education institution in New York, USA from September 23 (Monday) to October 2 (Wednesday).

This training focused on three areas: integrated education, curriculum operation, and special education-related services, and explored the future direction of special education by comparing and analyzing the current status of special education in the US and Korea. The institutions visited included the New York Department of Education, the Helen Keller National Center, three elementary, middle, and high schools with well-functioning integrated education, and two special schools, for a total of seven institutions.
