【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=청주시는 도시 열섬현상을 완화하고 미세먼지 저감을 위한 ‘도시바람길숲 조성사업’의 1차년도 사업을 성공적으로 마무리했다. 

사업 대상지인 상당구 용암동 방서수변공원 2호는 도시바람길숲 유형 중 디딤확산숲으로 약 30억원의 사업비를 투입해 오는 12월 7일 준공을 앞두고 있다. 조성 면적은 약 1.8ha다.

도시바람길숲 조성사업은 2024년 기본 및 실시설계를 시작으로 2025년부터 2027년까지 3개년에 걸쳐 추진 중이며, 총 200억 원의 사업비가 투입된다. 

올해 1차년도는 방서수변공원 디딤확산숲 조성을 중심으로 진행됐으며 2026년에는 방서동남권역 및 산업단지권역, 2027년에는 율량천변 권역 등으로 단계적으로 확대해 도시 전역의 바람길 체계를 완성해 나갈 계획이다.

도시바람길숲은 도시 외곽의 산림을 활용하는 바람생성숲, 하천·가로축을 따라 조성되는 연결숲, 도심 내 공원녹지에 확산 기능을 부여하는 디딤확산숲으로 구성된다. 

이 중 디딤확산숲은 외곽 산림에서 생성된 찬 공기가 도심 속에 머물 수 있도록 도와 도시 기온을 낮추고 복사열을 차단하는 등 핵심적인 역할을 한다.

디딤확산숲에는 소나무 숲, 메타세쿼이아 길, 대왕참나무길, 이팝나무길, 벚나무길 등 다양한 테마 숲이 조성돼 시민들이 사계절 내내 변화하는 숲 경관을 즐길 수 있다.

앞서 올해 6월에는 월운천 연결숲 조성(총사업비 13억원)을 완료해 ‘외곽–도심–가로변’으로 이어지는 도시 바람길 축을 한층 강화했다.

시 관계자는 “도시바람길숲은 단순한 녹지 확충을 넘어 여름철 열섬현상을 완화하고 도시 생태환경을 근본적으로 개선하기 위한 핵심 사업”이라며 “2027년까지 단계적인 사업 추진을 통해 시민들이 더 시원하고 쾌적한 청주를 체감할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
