이번 장학생 선발은 더 많은 잠재적 우수 인재를 발굴하고 균등한 교육 기회를 제공하기 위한 취지에서 추진된다. 특히 기존 장학금 지급 기준이었던 보은군 1년 거주 요건을 6개월로 대폭 완화해 모집함으로써, 보다 많은 학생들이 장학 혜택을 받을 수 있도록 했다. 이번 제도 개선은 보은군 교육 환경의 매력도 제고는 물론, ‘지역 인재 양성’의 폭을 한층 넓히는 계기가 될 것으로 기대된다.

먼저 성적 장학생은 군내 중·고등학교 재학생 중 성적이 재적 학년의 상위 30% 이내에 해당하는 학생을 대상으로 학교장이 추천한다. 복지 장학생은 기초생활수급자, 차상위계층, 한부모가족 지원 대상자의 자녀 또는 본인, 장애인복지법상 ‘심한 장애인’(등록장애인) 본인 등 해당 요건 중 하나라도 충족하면 보호자 또는 본인이 직접 신청할 수 있다.

또한 학교장 추천 장학생(예체능 및 기능생 장학생)은 올해 국가기관이 주최한 전국대회에서 예체능 분야 또는 각종 기능경기대회에서 개인 또는 단체 3위 이내 입상한 초·중·고·대학생을 대상으로 하며, 장학회의 심사를 통해 지급 여부가 결정된다.

장학금 지원 금액은 △성적 장학금의 경우 중학생 30만 원, 고등학생 50만 원 △복지 장학금은 중학생 20만 원, 고등학생 40만 원이며, 학교장 추천 장학금(예체능·기능)은 개인·단체 성적 및 입상 수준에 따라 차등 지급된다.

신청은 중·고등학생 복지 장학금 및 학교장 추천 장학금(대학생)을 대상으로 하며, 신청 기간 내 군청 주민행복과 평생학습팀 방문 또는 등기우편 접수가 가능하다. 선발 결과는 심사를 거쳐 12월 말 최종 발표 후 장학금이 지급될 예정이다.
