옥천군은 올 상반기 각 읍·면 지역균형발전추진위원회를 중심으로 지역 자원, 개발수요, 미래 성장 가능성을 주제로 주민회의 숙의과정을 통해, 각 읍·면이 보유한 비교우위 자원을 기반으로 특색사업을 발굴했다.

먼저 읍·면별 공모신청서를 접수한 뒤 전문가로 구성된 옥천군 균형발전특별분과위원회의 심의를 거쳐 다음 세 개 사업이 최종 선정됐다.

옥천읍 발굴 사업은 「한 편의 시처럼 머무는 곳, 지용문학공원 Re:story 프로젝트」로 지용문학공원 내 빛조형물 등 야간경관특화볼거리 및 공원 생태 경관 재생으로 구읍 방문객의 체류시간 연장을 통해 지역의 특화된 관광 활력을 제고할 계획이다.

또한 이원면은 현재 전국 묘목 산업의 중심지로서의 위상 회복이 긴요한 시점으로「SEED PORT 365, 이원 스마트 육묘장 조성 사업」발굴 사업을 통해 씨앗 채종 단지, 스마트 육묘 생산단지를 구축해 우량 종묘 육성과 안정적 공급망을 마련하여 농가소득 안정화, 지역 일자리 창출 및 이원 묘목의 국내외 시장 경쟁력 확보를 강화할 예정이다.

군북면 발굴 사업은 「대청호 물빛따라, 자연·문화·사람이 어우러지는 군북면」으로 대청호 수변 일원에 주변 관광자원과 연계한 생태광장, 산책로 및 숲속 체험장 등 생태관광 네트워크 거점 기반 구축을 통해 친환경 체류 공간을 조성할 계획이다.

선정된 사업에는 읍·면별 25억 원 내외의 재원이 집중 투자되며, 2026년 기본·실시설계를 시작으로 본격 추진될 예정이다. 군은 향후 사업 추진 과정에서 주민 의견을 지속 반영하고, 단계별 추진 상황을 점검해 사업의 효과성과 안정성을 확보해 나갈 계획이다.

황규철 옥천군수는 “이번 선정은 단순한 공모 성과를 넘어 지역 주민의 참여가 실제 정책 실행으로 이어진 사례”라며 “선정된 사업이 각 지역의 특성과 자원을 살려 추진될 수 있도록 지원하고, 선정되지 않은 읍·면에서 발굴된 사업도 정부 및 충북도 공모 등 다양한 경로를 통해 추진 가능성을 모색하겠다”고 말했다.
