【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=충주시는 지난 27일 전남 여수에서 열린 기후에너지환경부 주관‘2025년 공공하수도 운영‧관리 실태점검 평가’에서 우수기관으로 선정돼, 환경부장관 표창과 7백5십만 원의 포상금을 수상했다고 밝혔다.

환경부는 공공하수도 운영 효율성과 서비스 수준을 높이기 위해 2001년부터 매년 공공하수도 운영‧관리 실태를 평가하고 있다.

충주시는 총인구 10만~30만 명 지자체 그룹에서 우수한 점수를 받아, 지난해 환경청별 우수지자체 특별상 수상에 이어 충주시 최초로 우수기관으로 선정되는 쾌거를 이뤘다.

이번 평가는 2024년 실적을 기준으로 전국 160개 공공하수도 관리청을 대상으로 진행됐다.

평가 항목은 △하수도 안전관리 대응능력 △하수관로 유지관리 △하수처리수 재이용률 △탄소중립 실천 등 40개 항목이며, 1차 서류평가와 2차 심의위원회 발표평가로 진행됐다.

충주시는 방류 수질을 법적 기준보다 낮은 수준으로 관리하면서 국지성 집중호우 대비 기존 배수 체계 개선을 위한 도시침수 예방사업 추진, 공공하수도 확대와 노후 하수관로 정비 등 체계적이고 효율적인 공공하수도 운영관리를 해온 점이 인정받았다.

특히, 하수처리공정 중 발생하는 바이오가스의 전처리‧고질화 설비 구축을 통한 환경오염물질 배출 감소와 그린수소 생산‧공급으로 에너지 재이용률 향상, 태양광 등 신재생에너지를 적극 활용해 에너지 자립률을 평균 36% 이상 달성한 성과들이 높은 점수를 받았다.
