  본 사업은 대전정부청사~세종정부청사~오송역~청주도심~청주국제공항을 잇는 총연장 64.4㎞ 구간으로, 총사업비 약 5조 1,135억원이 투입되는 민자사업이다. 향후 국토교통부는 사업자 선정, 실시협약 체결, 실시설계 및 착공 등의 절차를 순차적으로 추진할 계획이다.

  충청북도는 그동안 CTX 노선이 청주 도심을 통과하지 않는 초기안에 대해 “청주가 빠진 광역철도는 진정한 충청권 철도가 아니다”라는 입장을 분명히 하며, 수년간 중앙부처 및 관계 지자체와 협의를 이어왔다.

수차례의 연구용역과 공동건의, 공청회를 거쳐 도심 통과 대안 노선을 제시하며 지역 접근성과 교통 효율성을 높이는 방안을 꾸준히 제안해왔다.

이번 KDI 민자적격성조사 통과는 이러한 충북도의 끈질긴 설득과 논리적 근거 제시가 결실을 맺은 결과로, 청주 도심 통과 노선의 확정은 충북 교통정책의 역사적 전환점이라 할 수 있다.

  CTX가 완공되면 충북도청에서 오송역까지 약 13분, 세종청사까지 31분, 대전정부청사까지 45분에 접근이 가능해진다. 이로써 청주 도심과 세종, 대전 간의 이동시간이 대폭 단축되며, 서울 및 수도권으로의 접근성 또한 한층 강화될 전망이다. 이는 단순한 교통 인프라를 넘어, 충청권 4개 시도의 생활경제권을 통합하는 ‘메가시티 교통축’으로 자리매김할 것이다.

  특히 청주국제공항은 CTX와 연계되어 중부권 거점공항으로 도약할 기반을 마련하게 되며, 세종·대전과의 연계를 통한 항공·물류·비즈니스 허브화가 가속화될 것으로 기대된다. 아울러 정부가 추진 중인 국가균형발전, 탄소중립, 대중교통 활성화 정책과도 궤를 같이하며, 지역 내 산업입지 경쟁력 강화 및 주거·교육·문화 여건 개선 등 다양한 파급효과를 가져올 것으로 전망된다.
