이번 간담회는 제9대 옥천군의회 개원 3주년을 맞아 관례적인 기념식을 탈피하고 첫 번째 의정활동으로써 지역사회와의 실질적인 소통을 통한 현장중심의 의정활동을 실천하고자 개최하게 됐다.

옥천고등학교는 1979년 개교이래 지역의 대표적인 일반계 고등학교로 특히, 소속 배구부는 1990년대부터 전국 대회에서 상위 성적을 거두며 다수의 프로 선수와 국가대표를 배출한 고교배구부 명문 학교이다.

이날 간담회에서는 배구부 운영 고충 및 건의사항 청취와 발전방안에 대한 다양한 의견을 공유하고 선수단 훈련을 직접 참관하는 등 현장의 목소리를 직접 듣는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌다

추복성 의장은 “이번 간담회는 다소 침체된 지역 엘리트 체육의 명맥을 유지하고 발전을 도모하기 위한 현장중심의 의정활동”이라며 “오랜 전통과 자부심을 지닌 옥천고 배구부가 앞으로도 지자체와의 지속적인 협력을 통해 과거의 명성을 되찾고 전국 최고의 고교 배구부로 재도약하는 계기가 되길 바란다고‘ 밝혔다.
