 이번 방문은 남은 4개월의 준비기간동안 엑스포 준비 전반에 걸쳐 실효성 있는 점검과 보완이 이뤄질 수 있도록 하기 위한 것으로, 단순한 행사 점검을 넘어 “현장에서 답을 찾겠다”라는 김영환 지사의 의지가 반영된 일정이었다. 

 김영환 지사는 조직위원회로부터 엑스포 준비 전반에 대한 현황을 보고받은 뒤, 제천엑스포 조성 부지와 충북테크노파크 천연물센터 등 주요시설로 이동해 현장점검을 이어갔다. 

 이날 점검은 행사장 진출입 동선과 주차시설 상태, 관람객 흐름을 고려한 공간 배치, 응급 상황 발생 시 신속 대응 체계 등 안전 관련 사항을 중심으로 집중적으로 이뤄졌다.
