어버이날 기념 효행상은 군수 표창으로 군 주민복지과에서 주관하며 9개 읍⋅면에서 자체적으로 효행자 및 장한 어버이를 선정해 표창장을 수여하는 사업이다.

옥천읍 행정복지센터는 1남 5녀의 자녀를 훌륭히 양육한 마암리 조영란 씨에게 ‘장한 어버이상’을, 지병으로 고생하는 모친을 극진히 봉양하며 꾸준히 봉사와 기부 활동을 실천해 온 장야리 주민 1명에게는 ‘효행자상’을 각각 표창하였다.

표창을 받은 조영란 씨와 익명의 장야리 주민은“어버이날의 최고의 선물”이라고 소감을 밝혔다.

같은 날 군서면 행정복지센터도 수여식을 진행하였다. 표창 대상자는 유경순 씨로 노환으로 거동이 불편한 시어머니를 40여 년간 손과 발이 되어 정성껏 봉양하고 마을 어르신들 또한 친부모처럼 섬겨 표창을 받게 되었다.

유경순 씨는 “시어머니께서 베풀어 주신 사랑에 보답했을 뿐인데 효행으로 인정받아 기쁘고 뿌듯하다”라고 소감을 밝혔다.

군 관계자는 “각 읍면에서 표창 받으신 장한 어버이와 효행상 수상자 여러분께 진심으로 축하의 말씀을 드린다”며“여러분의 따뜻한 마음과 모범적인 효행이 우리 사회에 큰 울림을 주었다. 앞으로도 옥천군의 아름다운 효 문화가 널리 퍼질 수 있도록 힘써달라”고 말했다.
