이날 새 시설에서 개최된 준공식에는 이범석 청주시장을 비롯한 시 관계자와 시의원, 국회의원, 그리고 김종강 주교 등 관계자 250여명이 참석했다. 행사는 축복예식, 경과보고, 축사, 테이프 커팅 순으로 진행됐다.

마리아의 집은 1989년도에 지어진 기존건물 1개동이 철거된 자리에 지하 1~지상 2층, 연면적 1천998㎡ 규모로 건립됐다. 

장애인 60여명과 종사자가 쾌적하고 편리하게 이용할 수 있는 식당, 강당, 회의실, 생활관 등을 갖췄다. 장애인 고령화를 대비한 병실 등 특성화 공간은 물론 친환경 외부데크, 붙박이장, 마감재를 사용해 장애인 이용 편의를 고려했다.

사업비는 국비 등 45억원(국비 22.5억, 도비 14.5억, 시비 8억)과 운영법인 청주교구 천주교회유지재단 자부담비 12억원 등 총 57억원이 투입됐다.

이범석 시장은 “이번 신축은 단순한 공간 확장을 넘어 미래 지향적인 시설로 개선하기 위해 세심하게 추진했다”면서 “앞으로도 장애인과 종사자, 시민들의 눈높이에 맞는 맞춤형 복지 서비스를 제공하도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
