【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=보은군은 7월부터 전 군민을 대상으로 농어촌버스 무상교통을 시행한다고 15일 밝혔다.

군에 따르면 지난해 6월부터 추진해 올해 4월 완료된 ‘대중교통체계 개편 및 효율화 방안 연구용역’에 따라 무상교통 추진 방법은 단계별 시행(70세 이상→청소년→전 군민)하는 방안과 전면 시행(전 군민)하는 방안에 대해 종합적으로 검토했다.

단계별 시행의 경우 시스템 구축비와 교통카드 제작비 등 초기 투자 비용이 많이 발생하고 교통카드 발급 절차에 대한 군민 불편을 해소하기 위해 전면 시행을 결정했다.

이번 결정으로 군은 군민들이 가장 많이 이용하는 교통수단인 농어촌버스에 대해 7월부터 전면 무상교통을 시행할 예정으로 전 군민을 포함해 우리 군을 방문하는 관광객들도 농어촌버스를 모두 무료로 이용이 가능하며 횟수 제한도 없다.

아울러 농어촌버스와 택시의 특성을 고려해 농어촌버스 운행이 어려운 벽․오지마을에는 사랑택시를 추가 지정하는 등 확대하는 방식으로 보완해 농촌지역 특성에 맞는 대중교통체계를 구축과 교통 복지 향상을 위해 더욱 노력할 예정이다. 

군은 교통사고를 예방하고 안전한 교통환경 조성을 위해 70세 이상 고령운전자 운전면허 자진 반납 지원금을 확대 시행할 계획이다. 

기존 70세 이상 고령자가 운전면허증을 반납하면 결초보은상품권 10만원을 지원했으나 2025년 1월 1일 이후 반납자부터 기존 대비 2배 증가한 결초보은상품권 20만원을 지원하는 조례가 개정 중이다.

최재형 보은군수는 “무상교통으로 군민들의 경제적 부담을 완화하고 이용자 중심의 교통서비스를 제공함으로써 군민들이 편리하게 이동할 수 있도록 지원할 것”이라며, “농촌지역 특성을 반영한 대중교통 정책을 지속적으로 발굴해 추진하겠다”고 말했다.
