대상포진은 면역체계가 약해진 상태에서 과거 수두 바이러스가 재활성화되며 발생하는 질환으로, 극심한 통증과 수포를 유발하고, 신경통이나 감각 이상 같은 장기적인 후유증으로 이어질 수 있다.

특히 60세 이상 고령층은 발병률이 높고 회복에도 긴 시간이 소요되는 만큼, 사전 예방이 무엇보다 중요하다는 것이 군의 설명이다.

군은 2018년 유료 접종을 시작으로, 2023년 65세 이상 무료 접종을 거쳐 2025년부터는 60세 이상으로 접종 대상을 확대해 운영 중이다.
