증평군 공무원 산불진화대는 3개 부대, 15개 조로 편성돼 산불대응 단계별 발령기준에 따라 출동하게 된다.

초기대응(피해면적 10ha 미만) 및 산불 1단계(피해면적 10ha ~ 50ha 미만)에는 축산산림과와 산불 발생 읍 또는 면에서 출동하고, 산불 2단계(피해면적 50ha ~ 100ha 미만)는 진화대 1부대 50여 명, 산불 3단계(피해면적 100ha 이상) 발생 시에는 3개 부대 150여 명이 출동해 대응에 나선다.

공무원 진화대원들은 연간 10시간의 안전교육을 이수하고 진화복과 개인 안전장비를 완비해 산불 전문진화대의 주불 진화 이후 잔불정리 및 후속 조치를 책임지게 된다.
