이 날 수여식에서는 문화, 체육, 경제, 정치, 의료 등 다양한 분야에서 옥천과 인연을 맺고 활동하는 10명에게 명예군민이 수여되었다.

옥천군은 2023년 7월 명예군민은 제도를 전면 개정하여 타 지역 거주 및 활동하는 인사 중 옥천 군정 발전에 헌신적 노력을 기울인 분들을 선정하고 있다.

작년은 총 4회에 걸쳐 64명의 명예군민을 선정하였고 올해 수여식에는 지난 해 13명의 인사 중 10명이 참석하였다.

황규철 옥천군수는“명예군민 여러분께서 추운 겨울 얼어붙은 마음을 녹여주고 옥천군을 빛내주심에 감사하다”며“앞으로도 옥천군의 새로운 도약과 희망을 지켜봐주고 응원해 주시길 바란다”고 말했다.

군은 이러한 명예군민 제도를 통해 외부와의 소통을 강화하고 지역 발전의 기반을 다져가고 있다. 

한편, 명예군민들은 고향사랑기부제 및 지역 축제에 동참하여 옥천군을 다양하게 홍보하는 중이다. 앞으로도 옥천군과 지속적인 인연을 이어나가 3년 연속 관광객 100만명 시대의 마중물이 될 것이라 기대하고 있다.
