【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=국내 유일의 액화수소 제품의 법정검사를 전담하는 ‘액화수소 검사지원센터’가 2일 금왕테크노밸리 산업단지에서 개소식을 갖고 본격 운영에 들어갔다.

한국가스안전공사가 주최한 이날 개소식에는 기후에너지환경부, 충청북도, 음성군, 수소 관련 기업 관계자, 주민 대표 등 80여 명이 참석해 국내 최초 액화수소 전문 검사기관의 출범을 함께했다.

액화수소 검사지원센터는 총사업비 319.54억원(군비 17.9억원 포함)이 투입돼 음성군 금왕읍 봉곡리 금왕테크노밸리 산업단지 내에 부지면적 8099㎡, 건축 연면적 1981.5㎡(시험동 3개동, 사무동 1개동) 규모로 조성됐다. 

2022년 3월 공모사업에 선정된 이후 단계적으로 사업이 추진돼 올해 3월 준공, 10월 설비 구축과 시운전을 완료하고 12월부터 정식 운영에 들어간다.

액화수소는 기체 수소를 영하 253도의 초저온 상태로 냉각해 부피를 약 800분의 1로 줄인 에너지원으로, 대량 저장과 장거리 운송이 가능하고 고압 저장이 필요한 기체 수소와 달리 저압저장이 가능해 안전성과 경제성을 동시에 확보할 수 있는 차세대 수소 에너지원으로 평가받고 있다.

센터에는 액화수소 공급설비, 갠트리크레인, 천장크레인 등 주요 설비 3종과 진공유지시험기, 헬륨누출시험기 등 시험장비 11종 13점이 구축돼 있다. 또한 저장탱크와 초저온용기 단열성능시험, 액화가스 침적·접촉시험 등 기초·재료시험을 수행할 수 있는 전문 시험 인프라를 갖추고 있다.

앞으로 국내에서 생산되는 모든 액화수소 제품은 본 센터를 통해 안전성 검증을 받아야만 유통될 수 있어, 액화수소 산업 전반의 안전성과 신뢰성이 한층 강화할 것으로 전망되고 있다.

군은 이미 수소안전뮤지엄, 수소제품시험평가센터, 수소충전소, 충북에너지 산학융합원 등을 유치·조성하고 탄소중립 시험인증산업 특구 지정·운영 등 수소 산업 전 주기 인프라를 단계적으로 구축해 왔다. 이번 액화수소 검사지원센터 개소를 통해 ‘안전–시험–인증–교육–산업화’로 이어지는 수소 산업 생태계를 완성하게 됐다.

특히 이번 센터 개소로 군은 기체 수소를 넘어 액화수소까지 아우르는 국가 차원의 수소 안전·시험·인증 기능수행의 핵심 거점도시로 도약의 발판을 마련하게 됐으며, 향후 액화수소 관련 기업 유치, 연구개발(R&D) 연계, 전문 인력 양성 등 지역 산업 구조 고도화에도 큰 역할을 할 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.

조병옥 군수는 “국내 최초이자 유일한 액화수소 제품 법정검사 기관이 음성에 구축된 만큼, 관련 기업 유치와 양질의 일자리 창출을 통해 지역경제에 새로운 활력을 불어넣겠다”고 말했다.

한편 군은 민선 7기 이후 전략적인 공모사업 대응을 통해 총 348건의 공모사업에 선정돼 1조2190억원의 외부재원을 확보했으며, ‘4+1 신성장산업’을 중심으로 한 지속 가능한 성장 기반 마련에 행정력을 집중하고 있다.
