【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=제천시 공공기관 유치를 위해 구성된 제천시 공공기관 유치 범시민추진위원회(위원장 최명현)는 지난 11월 29일 지방시대위원회 신용한 부위원장을 만나 제천으로의 공공기관 이전 당위성과 지역 발전 전략을 직접 설명하고, 제천시민의 단단한 의지와 결집된 열망을 전달했다고 밝혔다.

이번 면담에서 최명현 위원장은 제천이 충북 북부권의 중심도시로 성장하기 위한 국가적 지원 필요성, 공공기관 이전을 통해 충북 지역 간 균형발전 격차를 해소해야 한다는 당위성, 시민·사회단체가 함께 결집한 범시민적 의지를 강조하며 “제천은 산업·교통·지리적 여건을 갖춘 준비된 도시이며, 공공기관 이전이 이루어질 경우 충북 전체의 균형발전에도 실질적 성과를 낼 수 있다”고 설명했다.

특히 위원장은 공공기관 이전의 국가정책적 필요성을 언급하며 “충북 북부권은 혁신도시 지정에서 제외되며 상대적으로 발전 기회를 충분히 갖지 못했다”며 “이제는 제천이 충북의 균형발전을 이끌 중심 역할을 해야 할 시점”이라고 강조했다.
