【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=청주시의회 이화정(사진) 의원은 26일 2025년도 복지국 소관 행정사무감사에서 관내 다수의 경로당이 전기 및 도시가스 등 공공요금 감면 혜택을 제대로 받지 못하고 있는 실태를 지적하며, 청주시의 적극적인 전수조사와 지원 강화를 촉구했다.

이화정 의원이 복지국 자료를 확인한 결과, 2012년 노인복지법 개정에 따라 전기요금 30% 감면 및 도시가스 사회복지시설 단가 적용이 가능한 경로당 중 상당수가 혜택을 놓치고 있는 것으로 드러났다.

전기요금 감면 혜택은 청주시에 등록된 여가복지시설 경로당 1,079개소 중 650개소(60%)만 적용, 도시가스요금 감면은 경로당 349개소 중 210개소(60%)만 감면 적용 받고 있다. 이는 전기 및 도시가스 감면 가능 경로당 중 약 40%가 혜택을 받지 못하고 있다는 의미다.

이 의원은 경로당이 공공요금 감면을 받기 위해서는 각 경로당에서 직접 신청해야 하는 번거로움과 시의 안내 부족 또는 정보 확인 미흡이 감면 누락 사례가 지속되는 주된 원인이라고 지적했다.

그는 경로당이 시의 관리·감독 체계 내에서 운영되고 있는 만큼, 시가 "감면 가능 경로당을 정확히 파악"하고 미신청 경로당이 혜택을 받을 수 있도록 "시 차원의 전수조사"를 실시하는 등 적극적인 조치가 필요하다고 강조했다.

이 의원은 이번 지적을 계기로 청주시가 전수조사 및 신청 안내를 실시할 경우, 감면 혜택을 받지 못하고 있던 경로당에도 실질적인 요금 감면 혜택이 돌아갈 것으로 기대된다고 밝혔다.
