‘일하는 밥퍼’는 고령자 및 장애인이 일손 부족 문제를 겪고 있는 농가, 소상공인, 기업체와 연계해 단순 작업을 수행하고 일정한 활동비를 지급받는 생산적 복지 사업으로 자원봉사와 소득 창출, 지역 상생이라는 세 마리 토끼를 동시에 잡았다는 평가를 받고 있다.

사업은 지난 3월 17일 정식 운영에 들어갔으며 단체작업장(경로당) 5개소와 기타작업장 2개소에서 하루 평균 노인 94명, 장애인 27명 등 총 121명의 군민이 다양한 작업장에 참여하고 있다. 또한 8월 중 기타작업장 1개소가 구 보은무료급식소 자리에 추가 설치될 예정으로, 70여 명의 노인들이 새롭게 참여할 것으로 기대된다.
