【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=단양군 지역 인재 육성을 위해 다양한 사업을 펼치고 있는 단양장학회(이사장 김문근)는 여름방학을 맞아 관내 초등학교 5∼6학년 학생 20명을 선발하여, 7월 28일부터 8월 1일까지(4박 5일) 인천 외국어마을에서 여름방학캠프를 운영한다.

이번 캠프는 2025년 단양장학회 신규 사업으로 총 예산 3,400만 원이 투입됐으며, 관내 13개 초등학교를 대상으로 지난 6월 21일부터 27일까지 신청을 받아 총 20명을 선발하여 지난 28일 인천 외국어마을에 입소했다.

캠프는 실제 영어문화권 국가와 유사한 환경 속에서 학생들의 글로벌 언어 능력을 향상시키고, 다양한 문화체험 프로그램을 통해 글로벌 역량을 키우는 데 중점을 두고 있다. 참가 학생들은 원어민 강사들과 함께하는 몰입형 외국어 수업, 다문화 이해 교육, 팀 프로젝트 및 체험활동 등을 통해 실용적인 언어 감각과 협업 능력을 기를 예정이다.

김문근 이사장(단양군수)은 “단양의 학생들이 이번 캠프를 통해 영어를 어렵게 느끼기보다는 재미있고 친숙하게 체득하고, 다양한 세계 문화를 직접 경험하며 넓은 시야와 글로벌 감각을 키우는 계기가 되기를 기대한다”고 말했다.

이어 “앞으로도 단양장학회는 지역 학생들이 더 넓은 세상에서 꿈을 펼칠 수 있도록 다양하고 차별화된 장학 프로그램을 지속적으로 발굴·운영해 나가겠다”고 덧붙였다.
