더불어민주당 임호선 의원(충북 증평·진천·음성, 사진)이 3일 농림축산식품부 장관 또는 지자체장이 꿀벌 보전시설을 설치·운영할 수 있도록 하는 「양봉산업육성법」 일부개정법률안이 국회를 통과했다고 밝혔다.

최근 기후위기로 더운 날씨와 기습 한파가 이어지자 꿀벌이 집단 폐사하면서 꿀벌 개체 수 감소가 심각한 상황이다. 꿀벌의 개체 수 감소는 양봉산업은 물론이고 과수농업, 산림 등에도 영향을 미쳐 식량 위기까지 초래할 수 있어 관리가 필요하다.

이번 개정안이 통과되면서 ‘꿀벌위도격리육종장’에서 개발한 우수 꿀벌 품종을 농가에 보급하기 위한 보전시설이 체계적으로 마련되는 등 꿀벌 생태계를 지원할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

임 의원은 “이상기후와 질병에 강한 우수 꿀벌을 격리해 관리하고, 체계적으로 농가에 보급할 수 있게 되었다.”라며 “집단폐사로 양봉농가는 물론 급등한 봉군 가격에 어려움을 호소하던 과수, 원예 농가 등에 생산비 부담을 덜어드릴 수 있을 것이다.”라고 말했다.
