충주시는 실시간 번호판 영치예고 시스템을 탑재한 영치전용 차량을 주 3회 운행하고 있으며, 현재까지 체납 차량 371대의 번호판을 영치하고, 603대를 영치 예고하여 체납액 13억 원을 징수하였다.

체납액을 전액 납부하면 번호판을 반환받을 수 있으며, 끝까지 납부하지 않으면 인도명령을 통해 강제로 견인하여 공매처분 하는 등 강력한 체납처분을 시행할 방침이다.

이오영 징수과장은 “번호판 영치활동을 강화하여 귀중한 자주재원인 지방세와 세외수입을 확보하는 동시에 성실히 납부하는 시민들이 상대적 박탈감을 느끼지 않도록 적극적인 징수 활동을 펼칠 계획”이라며 “번호판이 영치되어 일상생활에 불이익을 받지 않도록 자발적인 납부를 당부드린다”고 말했다.

지방세 및 세외수입 체납액은 전국 어디서나 은행 자동인출기(ATM)를 이용해 고지서 없이도 납부할 수 있으며, 가상계좌 혹은 ARS 자동응답시스템을 통해 납부할 수 있다.
