【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=충청북도교육청(교육감 윤건영) 환경교육센터와우는 청주랜드동물원(소장 김구연)과 16일, 청주랜드동물원에서 환경교육 운영 활성화를 위한 업무 협약을 체결하였다.

이날 협약식에는 배상호 창의특수교육과장, 김구연 청주랜드동물원 소장을 비롯한 관계자 6명이 참석하였다.

협약식을 통해 양기관은 동물원 교육과 기후위기 대응 등 환경교육 프로그램 공동개발 및 운영과 관련 자료의 상호교류 등을 약속하고 지역을 연계한 환경교육 사업 협력을 통해 환경교육 문화 확산 및 환경교육생태계를 조성하는데 힘을 모으기로 합의했다. 

특히, 학생들이 체험학습으로 자주 찾는 청주동물원과의 협약은 지역을 연계한 연결․탐구․참여를 반영한 특색있는 환경교육 프로그램이 활성화될 것으로 기대된다.

와우센터는 개관한 2022년부터 현재까지 청주동물원과 함께 시민참여 프로그램과 교원연수 등을 운영하며 지속적으로 협력해 오고 있으며, 오는 5월에는 <환경시민과 떠나는 지구여행>, 9월부터는 <속 깊은 청ZOO> 교원연수도 준비되어 있다.

공영동물원 최초로 서식지 외 보전 기관으로 지정된 청주동물원과의 협약을 두고 배상호 창의특수교육과장은 “동물 전시를 넘어서는 야생동물 보호기관으로서 동물원에 대한 새로운 환경교육적 의미와 가치를 확대할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.”고 말했다.
