청주대 항공운항학과는 매년 다수의 졸업생들이 공군 및 해군 조종 장교로 진출하는 등 77명이 조종사가 되기 위해 장교로 입대하는 등의 성과를 거두고 있다고 11일 밝혔다.

이런 가운데 최근 항공운항학과 졸업생 3명이 티웨이항공 조종사로 선발돼 항공사에서 제공하는 일정 기간의 교육훈련을 마친 뒤 부기장으로서 티웨이항공의 다양한 항공노선에 투입될 예정이다.

실제 하엽재(13학번)·이성백(15학번) 씨는 청주대에서 자격증명 취득한 뒤 기량 숙달을 통해 합격했으며, 김윤수(15학번) 씨는 항공운항학과 졸업 후 청주대 비행교육원에서 비행교관으로 후배들을 양성하다가 항공사에 입사하게 됐다.

항공운항학과 박원태 학과장은 “앞으로도 학생들이 민간항공사 및 군 조종사 등 다양한 분야로 진출할 수 있도록 효과적인 프로그램을 개발할 것”이라며 “또한 다수 항공사와의 유대 강화와 산학협력을 통해 학생들의 취업을 적극적으로 돕겠다”고 말했다.

한편 청주대는 지난해 공군 장교 학군단 심의(조종·일반학군)에 최종 선발돼 올해 2학년 재학생을 대상으로 조종 분야 10명, 일반 분야 20명 등 총 30명의 첫 학군사관후보생(ROTC)을 선발한다. 

청주대는 선발된 학군사관후보생들이 공군의 선진화된 전력에 부합하는 인재로 자리매김할 수 있도록 체력단련실과 전용강의실 등을 갖춘 독립건물을 구축하고, 현재 운영 중인 비행교육원과 항공기술교육원, 항공모빌리티연구소, UAM연구센터를 활용해 각종 교육을 진행할 예정이다.
