단양군과 충북도는 9일 오전 10시 30분 군청 소회의실에 ‘단양 아트라인파크 단양역 관광시설 민간개발사업’ 협약을 체결했다.

이번 사업은 심곡폐터널과 유휴부지를 활용한 새로운 복합문화예술체험형 관광자원 개발사업으로 소요자금 총 846억 원 규모의 사업비가 투입되는 민간 개발형태로 추진된다. 특히, 새로운 예술공간과 여행을 접목하고 복합문화예술 관광, 자연 친화적인 사계절형 관광 컨테츠 제공으로 단양군을 대표하는 새로운 관광 거점으로 육성할 계획이다.

또한, 지역 주민과 상생발전을 위한 로컬마트 운영 등으로, 참여업체는 새로운 관광객 연간 80만 명의 유입이 가능할 것으로 전망하고 있다.

주요 사업으로는 폐터널을 활용한 미디어아트 예술공간을 제공한다. 레이저아트, 미디어아트, 설치미술 굿즈소품샵, 실감카페, XR신기술과 예술이 결합한 이색적인 미디어아트 테마터널로 특화할 예정이다.

야외 체험시설에는 어드벤처 돔, 인도어 어드벤처, 짚코스터, 스카이 바이크 인공동굴탐험 등의 실내 어트렉션 돔과 야외 체험시설이 도입된다.

이날 협약식에 참석한 김영환 충북도지사는, “이번 사업은 단양에서 기획하고 진행하고 있어, 지역의 곳곳에 만들어 지면서 충청북도가 레이크파크로 구성될 것”이라며, “단양군은 관광공사와 스카이워크, 고수동굴 등의 많은 관광자원을 보유하고, 패러 글라이딩이 성지이기도 하고, 연간 1000만 명의 관광객이 방문하고 있어 단양은 앞으로 1500만, 2000만 명이 다녀가는 국민 관광지로 성장할 것”으로 전망했다.

김문근 군수는, “이번 사업은 단양역을 중심으로 야외 800ｍ, 터널 800ｍ 등 1.6킬로미터를 관광시설로 민자 840억 원을 유치하여 관광시설을 조성한다. 야외 800ｍ에 호텔, 문화예술공간을 조성하고, 터널 800ｍ는 3개 구간으로 나누어 빛과 조명을 이용하여 MZ세대들이 즐길 수 있는 체험을 공간을 조성할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

사업의 대표 출자자인 동부건설 윤진오 사장은, 사업이 본격 추진된다면, 지역의 관광 활성화와 이를 통한 고용 창출은 물론 지역에서 생산하는 농특산물 판매로 경제적 활성화도 기대된다고 말했다.
