단양군지역사회보장협의체는 지역 재향군인회와 지진 피해로 고통받고 있는 튀르키예를 돕고자 자발적으로 특별 현장모금 행사를 24일 오전 10시부터 단양문화예술회관 1층에서 개최했다.

이날 행사에 지역민들은 십시일반 온정의 손길에 동참했다. 특히, 어린이집에서 나온 원생들이 고사리손 들린 성금 봉투를 자신의 키보다 높은 모금함에 직접 넣어 참석자들에게 훈훈한 감동을 주기도 했다.

이날 행사를 주관한 단양군지역사회보장협의체 정옥림 민간공동위원장은, 절망인 튀르키예 주민들에게 희망의 씨앗을 조금이라도 뿌릴 수 있었으면 하는 의미에서 시작했는데 많은 참여자의 협조로 모금 예상액을 넘어섰다면서, “지진 사망자가 4만 3천명 넘어서 그냥 지나치기에는 너무하다는 생각과 지인들이 돕고 싶은데 방법을 알려달라고 하여 대사관을 안내했다”며, “우리도 어떻게 도움을 줄까 고민 끝에 군청관계자, 재향군인회, 보장협의체 등의 의견으로 현장모금을 하게됐다”고 전했다.

한편, 이번에 모금된 성금은 충북사회복지공동모금회를 통해서 튀르키예에 전달될 예정이다.
