Hyundai Elevator applies 3 types of smart safety gear for field workers

LGU+ and IoT grafting technology, paid to workers including partners

Detect module sensors such as smart helmets, safety rings, and seat belts

-im changyong reporter

Hyundai Elevator announced on the 18th that it will introduce a smart safety system jointly developed with LGU+ to installation sites nationwide from the 21st for the safety of field workers across the country. The smart safety system applied with Internet of Things (IoT) technology is applied to all sites nationwide, including direct management and partner companies.

According to Hyundai Elevator, in January of last year, LGU+ signed an MOU on 'joint development and expansion of smart safety equipment system' and started development. In the pilot test conducted since last April, big data-based machine learning technology was applied to analyze the on-site situation and worker behavior types for 150 workers, and the system suitability was improved.

The smart safety system consists of three types of smart safety gear equipped with IoT sensors (hardware, safety ring, and seat belt sensor), a beacon sensor, a worker-only application (App), and a control platform. When the operator proceeds with the installation process, it automatically recognizes whether the hard hat chin strap or safety ring is fastened, and if it is not fastened, it can be notified to the operator and the surroundings to prevent danger in advance.

The three types of smart safety gear minimized the discomfort when wearing them and put great effort into enhancing the convenience. While minimizing the weight, it is manufactured in a way of attaching and detaching to the worker's existing equipment to increase versatility. In addition, considering the on-site situation where charging is not feasible, the application allows real-time remaining power to be checked.

Jeonghan Lee, CSEO (Chief Safety and Environment Officer) of Hyundai Elevator, said, “We have preemptively established a smart safety system to prevent risks that may occur due to the nature of the elevator installation, where work at high places is unavoidable. We will promote the improvement of the working environment and the development of the system,” he said.
