【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=충북 옥천군이 민선7기 들어 각종 현안사업 결실을 보이며 옥천의 미래 먹거리를 위한 토대를 마련하는 성과를 이뤄내고 있다.

올해 지역주민들의 숙원사업이였던 충청권 광역철도(대전-옥천) 연장사업, 옥천박물관 건립, 장계관광지 명소화 사업 등 이 성과를 보이며, 옥천군의 지속 가능한 성장 발판을 위한 기반시설이 확충되었다.

특히, 김재종 군수는 현안사업 해결을 위해 중앙부처, 국회, 충북도 등을 여러 차례 방문하여 사업추진 협조를 요청하며 답보상태였던 사업의 추진동력을 이끌어냈다. 

충청권 광역철도 연장사업의 경우 2016년 사전타당성 용역실시 이후 국토교통부, 충북도, 대전시 간 이견을 보이자 김 군수는 지난 2019년 허태정 대전시장을 3차례 만나 2020년 기본계획수립 용역이 조기에 추진될 수 있도록 적극적으로 발품행정을 펼쳤다.

이에 지난 10월 국토교통부의 광역철도(대전-옥천)연장사업에 대한 기본고시에 따라 내년 2023년 착공해 2026년 개통을 앞두고 있어 향후 대도시권과 교통여건이 획기적으로 개선될 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다. 

군은 정부 정책에 발맞추어 지역 발전 밑거름이 되도록 선제 대응할 방침으로 광역철도 개통 대비 교통망 개선에 따른 지역 파급 효과와 배후도시로의 역할 증대에 대한 기획 연구 용역을 추진 진행 중에 있다.

또한 각종 규제로 사업추진에 난항을 겪던 관광사업이 민선7기 들어 사업추진의 물꼬를 트며 활성화를 위한 초석을 다졌다.

사업대상지가 농업진흥구역으로 추진에 난항을 겪고 있던‘옥야동천 유토피아조성사업’은 지난 8월 농림축산식품부와 지속적인 협의로 규제를 풀어 구읍 지역 관광활성화의 계기를 마련했다.

민간사업자의 사업포기와 시설노후로 10여년간 사실상 방치되었던 장계관광지는 2019년부터 시설보수와 출렁다리, 전망데크 설치, 산책로 정비 등 최신 관광 트렌드를 반영한 명소화사업 추진으로 옛 명성을 찾아가고 있다.

대청댐 건설이후 40여년 동안 전체면적의 83.8%가 환경규제와 개발제한으로 지역발전의 장애물로 자리하던 대청호는 지난 5월 국가하천 최초로 안터지구가 생태관광지역으로 지정되며 대청호 규제 개선의 첫 걸음을 떼기도 했다.

이와함께 옥천의 역사를 보존‧계승하기 위한 옥천박물관 건립 사업은 지난해 10월 정부 사전평가에서 탈락했으나, 이후 사업계획을 체계적으로 보완하여 1년여 만에 문화체육관광부 설립 타당성 사전평가를 통과하며 주변 관광자원과 어울리는 지역의 명소가 될 것으로 기대되고 있다.
