‘Aquatic Plant Learning Center’, decorated with the most beautiful garden on Daecheong Lake, is attracting attention as a place where you want to take a life shot with your lover, friends, and family.

The grass plaza, metamorphic sedimentary rocks, water lily ponds, wildflower paths, European-style buildings, and indoor gardens are good places to take photos. The best among them is the frame-type photo zone with the Daecheong Lake and green mountains in the background. After taking a photo, if you cut it out along the frame border, a masterpiece is born as if it was taken in a studio.

The Aquatic Plant Learning Center, built on a site of about 60,000 square meters, is a representative healing destination in Okcheon, North Chungcheong Province, which has grown from a hidden pearl to a shining star. The gentle waves of Daecheong Lake seen from the learning center are sufficient to heal the body and mind of office workers who are exhausted from stress in the city, and the water lilies on the pond and the wildflowers blooming in the river do the same role as vitamin A to revitalize the eyes. .

Nicknamed 'Heavenly Garden', this learning center has been receiving national attention since 2017. After Shin Kang-seop, a regional director of Chungcheongbuk-do, who served as Okcheon Deputy Governor at the time, visited this place to inspect tourist attractions in the county, he became more famous as he admired the hidden wonders of Lake Daecheong. He also gave it the nickname "Heavenly Garden".

The Aquatic Plant Learning Center (Director Seo-taek Joo), established on the edge of Daecheong Lake, Gunbuk-myeon, Okcheon-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, started as a landscape agriculture in 2003 when five villagers jointly cultivated aquatic plants. In 2008, it was recognized as a place for education to love, protect, and conserve water, and was designated as a ‘science experiential learning center’ by the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education.

Now, almost all aquatic plants that are native to Korea, including 'water lily', a pure plant that rejects any pollution, are cultivated and exhibited, and hundreds of wild flowers bloom by season, making it the most beautiful lake garden embraced by Geumgang Daecheong Lake. .

It takes about an hour and a half to tour this garden. If you park at the entrance and climb the wooden stairs, you will see a ‘narrow door’ past the ticket office. When everyone bows their heads in humility in front of nature and enters the door, they enter a ‘narrow road’. Dozens of aquatic plants and wild flowers greet you on the narrow road.

After passing this road and entering the garden, you can slowly walk along the signpost and enjoy the superb view of the sky, flowers, trees, and Daecheong Lake. The slogans hung everywhere, such as Heaven's Wind Path, Walk Like a Turtle, Wind Path, and Time Stopped, guide your steps.

The first black rock you encounter is impressive. This rock is a metamorphic sedimentary rock of the Hwanggangri Formation, which is said to prove that this area was a sea a long time ago. Large and small stones are embedded in the black rock, and at first glance it looks like lava has flowed down.

After passing the path in front of the mysterious sedimentary rocks, you will enter the 'Heavenly Wind Road'. It is a 300m long barrier road with large and small trees in the middle of a large grassy square providing shade. If you walk on the east side of the road and bow your head to the lake under the cliff, you can see a fish the size of an arm swimming around.

If you go around the grass plaza once, you will enter the ‘cliff road under the flower mountain’. A structure was installed on the sheer cliff to pave the way. If you go up the cliff road, you will meet a recitation standing in the middle of a black rock.

When you descend the peak of Daecheong Lake, where the most unexplored scenery unfolds, you arrive at a shelter where time has stopped. With a European-style building like a magic castle, there is a pond with water lilies in the back, and an observation deck and outdoor benches in front, making it a good space for healing.

After resting for a while, head back down the hill and you will arrive at the ‘smallest church in the world’. Although it is small, the inside of the church facing the lake is very attractive. On the way down the hill, 4 greenhouses are built side by side. In order from the above column, they are a bonsai garden, an indoor garden, a water lily farm, and a succulent garden.

Director Joo Seo-taek said, “I recommend that you have a healing time in the heavenly garden where the blue sky, mountains, and lakes harmonize, giving rest to your weary mind and body and wiping away all your worries.” The Aquatic Plant Learning Center can be visited by prior reservation. Hours of operation are Monday-Saturday 10:00-18:00, admission is 6,000 won for the general public and 4,000 won for students.
