증평군은 국군문화진흥원이 아동·청소년의 독서 환경 개선과 지역 독서 생태계 강화를 위해 신간 어린이 도서 5,000권을 증평군립도서관에 기증했다고 5일 밝혔다.

국군문화진흥원은 병영 내 독서 운동 지원과 문화생활 보급을 위해 설립된 단체로, 증평군과는 지난 2019년부터 인연을 맺어왔다. 이번 기증을 포함해 지난 8년간 총 10차례에 걸쳐 전달된 도서는 누적 4만 2,464권에 달하며, 시가로 환산하면 약 6억 3,000만 원 상당이다.

군립도서관은 기증받은 도서를 서가에 비치해 군민들이 자유롭게 이용할 수 있도록 할 예정이며, 중복 도서는 관내 작은도서관과 공공기관 등에 재기증하여 지역 전체로 독서 자원을 확산시킬 계획이다.

특히 올해 하반기에 개최될 ‘증평 김득신 북페스티벌’에서는 이번 기증 도서를 활용한 ‘무료 나눔 행사’도 함께 열릴 예정이어서, 군민들이 책을 통해 소통하는 의미 있는 자리가 될 것으로 보인다.

군 관계자는 “변함없이 따뜻한 나눔을 실천해주시는 국군문화진흥원에 진심으로 감사드린다”며 “기증받은 도서들이 지역 어린이들의 꿈과 정서를 키우는 소중한 밑거름이 되도록 소중히 활용하겠다”고 말했다.
