【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=전통무예 택견의 세계적인 축제인 '제16회 세계택견대회'가 '택견! 세계로 활개치다!'라는 슬로건을 내걸고 지난 24일 충주에서 성대한 막을 올렸다.

충주시와 충청북도 후원, 한국택견협회 주관으로 열리는 이번 대회는 24일부터 26일까지 사흘간 진행되며, 21개국에서 온 국내외 선수 총 300여 명이 참가해 열띤 경연을 펼치고 있다.

대회 첫날인 24일에는 본때뵈기, 붙뵈기, 막뵈기 등 택견의 전통 경기 종목들이 진행되어 무예 본연의 멋을 선보였다. 대회 이틀째인 25일은 탄금공원에서 유소년 경기를 비롯해 체급별 젊은 선수들의 역동적인 경기가 이어졌다. 특히, 유소년 경기는 대걸이와 맞서기 등 견주기 중심으로 구성돼 경기장의 열기를 더했다.

올해 대회에서는 택견의 미래를 밝힐 '유소년 대회 종목'이 새롭게 마련되어 주목받고 있다. 외국에서 온 꼬마 택견 꿈나무 등 100여 명의 청소년이 겨루는 이 종목은 향후 택견 꿈나무들의 요람이 될 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.

한국택견협회 박효순 사무총장은 이번 대회와 관련해 "세계택견대회는 2008년 제1회 대회를 시작으로 올해 제16회째를 맞았다"며, "21개국 국내외 선수 300여 명이 출전해 경쟁을 벌이고 있다"고 밝혔다.
