Yeongdong-gun, 2021 Korea Senior Welfare Award

-im changyong reporter

Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do won the grand prize at the '2021 Korea Elderly Welfare Excellence Award' held at the National Assembly Hall on the 12th.

This event, hosted by the Korea Senior Citizen Welfare Association, is an award given to selected organizations that have contributed to the development of welfare for the elderly.

Blind screening was conducted strictly by dividing the status of welfare for the elderly per elderly person, the current status of nursing institutions, the ratio of those who were recognized to the applicants for long-term care insurance for the elderly, and jobs for the elderly.

In this evaluation, the county was recognized for its administrative power in implementing a variety of customized welfare policies for the elderly by reflecting regional characteristics, and was selected as the best local government in the country for the welfare support for the elderly in the local government.

This is the result of actively responding to the various leisure and cultural needs of the elderly in rural areas, where infrastructure for the welfare of the elderly is relatively lacking in accordance with the military government policy of ‘customization of welfare’.

In order to ensure that the citizens of the county can live a comfortable and healthy old age, they are intensively promoting projects tailored to the characteristics and conditions of each region, infusing new welfare vitality.

In particular, in the midst of a social atmosphere stagnated by COVID-19 last year, 6.6 billion won was invested to create productive and diverse jobs for the elderly and social activities for the elderly.

In addition, it closely managed and supported 48 elderly care institutions in the region to closely monitor the lives of the local elders, and continued to improve the treatment of workers in related institutions to improve the overall level of welfare for the elderly.

In addition, it is analyzed that active administration, such as distributing artificial intelligence speakers to dementia patients and elderly families with mild cognitive impairment, and providing customized care services such as real-time smart monitoring and non-face-to-face care system construction, had a positive effect on the evaluation.

This year, we are planning various projects to promote convenience for users by expanding long-term care service facilities and installing parking lots accordingly, and to minimize the care gap for the elderly with dementia and mild cognitive impairment.

Mayor Park Se-bok said, “In the aging society, the welfare of the elderly is important to both the present and future generations. I will do it,” he said.

Meanwhile, at the end of December last year in Yeongdong-gun, the number of the elderly aged 65 and over was 15,295, accounting for 33.4% of the total population.
