Chungbuk National University Department of Materials Science and Engineering, awarded the grand prize at the Nano Science Technology Contest

Chungbuk National University (President Kim Soo-gap) Chungbuk National University's 4th grade students (Ji-Chang Kim, Jun-Seop Lee, Young-Ha Lim, Young-Hwi Jeong) of Chungbuk National University will be honored with the grand prize at the GIST Nano Science and Technology Competition at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology 2020 held online on October 16 Achieved.

The students of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Chungbuk National University exhibited a work called'Next Generation Neuromorphic Device, Hybrid Tellurene Synaptic Barristor (Next Generation Brain Imitation Device, Hybrid Terulene Synaptic Varistor)'. This work logically and convincingly demonstrated that when a new two-dimensional terulene material similar to graphene is applied to a NOR-type parallel structure varistor device, a high-performance brain-mimicking synaptic device with high signal processing speed and excellent energy efficiency can be realized. . This idea received the first prize in recognition of its novelty and excellence from the judges.

Advising Professor Byeong-jin Cho, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, said, “It is significant that most of the participants were the only undergraduate participants among graduate students and received the grand prize. Even though they were undergraduates, they read the papers on the subject of interest and tried to find the missing parts. It seems that passion and determination were effective in finding new ideas. "We will continue to give undergraduate students a continuous interest in studying and researching nanomaterials and devices," he said.

Meanwhile, the Nano Science and Technology Contest hosted by the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology invites nanomaterials (electronics/energy/environment/bio/other nano-related fields) and device-related ideas for future technologies and It is a contest to judge the contents.
