Yeongdong-gun, local specialty persimmon tree has red persimmon

Maegok Residents' Self-Governing Committee'Picking Love Event'

In October and with the ripening of autumn, orange persimmons all over Yeongdong in Gamgo-eul opened as if branches were bent.

Persimmon tree Garosu-gil in Yeongdong is well-known for its beautiful scenery and atmosphere in autumn, and it fills the hearts of military people and tourists who come and go.

The persimmons of Yeongdong are known to the people of this region as a symbol of the region and a boast.

After enacting the “Road Tree Creation and Management Ordinance,” for the systematic management of persimmon trees in 2004, Yeongdong-gun's affection for persimmon trees grew even more.

The county has organized an unauthorized collection instruction and enforcement team to keep the persimmons ripening in autumn for a longer period of time to protect the persimmon trees, and has designated and managed neighboring houses, shops, land cultivators, and village halls as managers.

Organizing the persimmon tree branches planted in front of a shopping center or house, cleaning the surroundings, and carefully caring for them is a friendly landscape commonly seen in Yeongdong.

Among them, Maegok-myeon Residents' Autonomy Committee (Chairman Lee Myung-gun) loves persimmon trees.

This group has directly obtained and planted saplings 10 years ago, and then grows them with love and sincerity and uses them as a medium for local harmony.

On the 20th, they held a “picking sense of love” event in the section of Naejanggyo-Okjeongyo (Dukmaru) managed by the group with 20 members participating.

Participants picked persimmons hanging from the street trees and enjoyed the richness of autumn that Yeongdong created.

In addition, the spirit of cooperation and service among members was displayed to provide an opportunity for organizational harmony.

Proceeds from harvesting and selling persimmons are used to support necessary supplies after selecting households in the welfare dead zone in the region, and they plan to share the warm affection of neighbors.

Lee Myung-gun, chairman of the Community Self-government Committee, who hosted the event, said, “We will not only donate, but also expand the love-sharing event that is practiced with the body.” I will take care of the persimmon tree with sincerity.”

In addition, the persimmon trees, street trees managed by the county, can be harvested autonomously from the 23rd of this month.

On the other hand, Yeongdong-gun is promoting various policies with the military to preserve the reputation of Gamgo village and protect the local specialty persimmon tree.

In 2000, a persimmon tree street tree origin monument was established in Buyong-ri, Yeongdong-eup, and the'Yeongdong-gun Street Tree Creation and Management Ordinance' was enacted in 2004.

Growing seedlings directly at the persimmon tree nursery, expanding Garosu-gil, replacing dead trees, and promoting a formative pruning project for accident prevention and urban beauty.

As a result, persimmon trees planted in urban areas since 1970 have expanded to outlying roads and rural farming roads, and now there are about 11,930 trees in the 159km section.
